Diego Morales

Don Diego paints nature, letting himself be guided by improvisation, in a flexible and candid approach. Photography then becomes an extension of his gaze, capturing fragments of reality that stimulate his imagination. Later, in the comfort of his studio, he examines these luminous traces and chooses the ones that resonate with him.

Basically, Don Diego has two distinct approaches to painting. When it comes to nature, he relies on sudden inspiration and improvisation: he either paints directly outdoors or captures whatever catches his eye on camera, before taking his time back in the studio to select his subjects.

When painting the human figure, his approach becomes more deliberate, seeking to establish a genuine dialogue with the viewer. He arranges scenes featuring his close friends and family, drawing inspiration from his sketchbooks, poetic or philosophical readings, and even those fleeting visions that come to him just before falling asleep.

At its core, his art balances an instinctive pull toward landscapes with an intimate, shared poetry whenever he explores the human form.

Don Diego holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Concordia University. His diverse professional background has led him to teach painting, practice street caricature in Old Montreal, and participate in numerous solo and group exhibitions in both Quebec and Ontario. He has also distinguished himself by actively supporting various fundraising campaigns through his art.

Currently, he lives and works in Montreal.
